Life and Medical Service

The story of a paediatrician who returned to his rural birthplace and expanded medical service into education, health awareness and institution building.

Dr. Prakash Jain

Dr. Prakash Jain

Dr. Prakash Jain was born in 1951 in Tendukheda (Sagoni), District Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his early education in the village before continuing his schooling at a government school in Chhindwara, supported by his uncle, Dr. Sanat Kumar Jain.

He later completed his MBBS and Diploma in Child Health at Government Medical College, Jabalpur. The limited medical facilities available around Tendukheda had a lasting influence on him, especially after his family experienced the loss of his younger brother in circumstances connected in the source account to inadequate local healthcare.

Rather than pursue a government post elsewhere, Dr. Jain returned to his birthplace and began practising as a child specialist in 1978. His medical service was rooted in accessibility, preventive health awareness, vaccination, hygiene and nutrition education for rural families.
